Gender Based Violence: Not Every Home is a Haven
As part of the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign, this exhibition focused on Gender Based Violence and the urgent need for greater awareness, prevention, and action. Organised by the Commission on Domestic Violence in Malta, the exhibition featured powerful work by locally based photographers. Together, the images highlighted the reality of violence against women and girls and encouraged the public to reflect on its impact.
At Communiqué, we were proud to support this important initiative. Our team organised the public call and coordinated the set-up of the exhibition. The exhibition opened on 25 November 2020, which marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It continued until 10 December, Human Rights Day, at City Gate, Triton Fountain Square in Valletta.
The message behind the exhibition was especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. As people spent more time at home, reports showed a worrying rise in Gender Based Violence. For many women and girls, home did not always mean safety. This made public awareness even more important. It also reminded communities, organisations, and policymakers that support services must remain visible and accessible.
At Communiqué, we believe that everyone can help make a difference. We can support survivors, raise awareness, and encourage open conversations. We can also share knowledge and promote action that helps women and girls live free from violence. Projects like this are an important part of our ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility programme and reflect our commitment to meaningful social impact.
We continue to encourage victims of domestic violence to seek help and support. Living at home should never mean living at risk. Women can always reach out and call support line 179.
